Birth: 11 November 1898 Narellan, NSW, Australia Death: 12 February 1919 (age 20) Died of Illness Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich, England Cemetery or Memorial: Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, England Father: Alfred Ernest Albert STONHAM (abt 1868 - 28 March 1923) Mother: Ada Sarah Grange ARMSTRONG (abt 1871 - 1938) Cyril enlisted 24 April 1917 at Sydney. He gave his occupation as Bank Clerk and his next of kin his father Alfred Ernest Albert Stonham of 15 Kingston Street Haberfield Sydney. Cyril served in the 33rd Battalion and 5th Divisional Ammunition Column A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Port Melbourne' 16 July 1917 and arrived France via England December 1917. Cyril's brother Arthur Ernest STONEHAM (66533) (b. Narellan) served in the 21st General Service Reinforcements A.I.F. He departed Adelaide on the 'Boonah' 22 October 1918. The 'Boonah' was recalled to Australia due to the armistice and Arthur was discharged 4 February 1919. Gunner Cyril John STONHAM died of illness (pneumonia) at Royal Herbert Hospital Woolwich England 12 February 1919 age 20. |
